Governor Expresses Optimism For Budget

Tanya Koonce

Gov. Bruce Rauner toured Getz Fire Equipment Company in Peoria Monday where he praised the 60 year-old business. He also reiterated his standard remarks about growing Illinois’ economy and his pro-business agenda.

The Republican governor also expressed cautious optimism that a compromise could happen soon to end the 22 month budget gridlock. “I’m just hearing chatter and feedback from some of our senators and our administration staff, that you know the negotiations are proceeding and um, they’re starting to develop some consensus on some certain things that have been difficult so far so, I think that there’s a chance.”

Democratic Senate President John Cullerton is also optimistic. Cullerton spokesman John Patterson says that’s, “in large part because we all know the governor has no Plan B for balancing the budget."

Patterson says Senate Democrats, ”continue to trade ideas with the Senate Republicans and hope that they will come back around to supporting the deals they helped put together.”
