Union local 974 in East Peoria ratified its supplemental agreement that goes along with its six-year main contract with Caterpillar Inc. The UAW announced the agreement had been "overwhelmingly ratified" by Local 974 workers of the heavy equipment maker.
Local 974 earlier rejected the supplemental agreement when it was part of the vote members cast for the main contract.
A majority of union local membership disagrees with the two tier pay system that is part of the main 6-year contract. They had wanted tier-two employees to make the same hourly rate as the tier-one workers by the end of the contract.
Regardless, 974 members voted in favor of its supplemental contract Saturday.
