PIA Sees Record Number of Travelers In February

February was another record month for the Gen. Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport.

47,385 passengers traveled through Peoria’s airport last month. That constitutes a three-percent increase, compared to the same time last year.

Gene Olson is the Director of the Peoria Metropolitan Airport Authority. He says so far it’s been a good year. Olson says the mild winter and a new destination likely helped boost the number of travelers who chose to use the Peoria International Airport. Olson says they also hope more people are realizing the the convenience of the facility.

About four months, ago American Airlines added twice daily, nonstop flights to Charlotte-Douglas International Airport from Peoria.  The airport now offers direct access to six major hubs, including four of the most connected airports in the world.
