Peoria's Conversations on Race Move to Workgroups

The City of Peoria is continuing its Community Conversation on Race and Economic Opportunity.

 

The next phase of the effort is smaller subject based group discussions, including asset development, justice, education and health. The workgroup meetings are an outgrowth of two large community conversations.

 

The small group meetings are scheduled between Monday and Wednesday next week in the evening at Valeska Hinton School and the Lincoln Branch Public Library.

 

The Workgroup Areas:

Asset Development: Improving financial literacy and credit, increasing income tax credits, building savings, home ownership strategies

Workforce Development: Achieving self-sufficiency through skills development, job placement, job retention, job advancement

Economic Development:  Increasing opportunity through growth in the economy.

Infrastructure:  Ensuring infrastructure investments create multiple benefits and factor in the needs of all communities.

Justice:  Improving educational outcomes and reducing barriers for persons with a history of involvement with the criminal justice system.

Health: Improving health outcomes correlated with high poverty.

Education: Increasing education attainment, reducing barriers to attainment and completion

Tues (3/14) 6:00pm-8:00pm Valeska Hinton—Asset Development

Wed (3/15) 4:00pm-6:00 pm Valeska Hinton—Workforce Development

Wed (3/15) 6:00pm-8:00pm Valeska Hinton—Education

 

Participants will work with city staffers to gather ideas and form actionable plans that can be considered in the city’s budget process.
