The National Park Service asked the City of Peoria to rework the way it submitted the Environmental Assessment for the proposed River Trail Development. The federal agency also suggested the city reopen the public comment period related to Riverfront Park land swap included in the proposed apartment complex development.

Joyce Blumenshine is with Friends of Riverfront Park. She says comments need to be directed towards environmental concerns on the park and the proposed replacement property. “We think it’s important to bring up a few other issues, such as the archeological significance and the fact that this was bought by Land and Water Conservation federal funds as permanent public open space at least that’s what we thought at the time.”

The additional Environmental Assessment public comment period ends February 20, 2017. You can link here to the city’s page on the proposed land swap River Trail development.
