Rotarians Shave Heads for Polio Eradication Fundraiser

The Peoria Rotary Club has three newly bald members. The service club’s Friday lunch meeting started with shaving the heads of 182nd Airlift Wing Colonel Robbie Roberts, businessman Steve Driscoll and retired TV news anchor Tom McIntyre.

The trio said if the club met its $14,000 fundraising goal to fight polio, they would shave their heads. Colonel Robbie Roberts:

“It was a little slow starting out, but I think members really saw not only the goodness of this challenge, but the fun we're having here getting our heads shorn in front of everybody and we’re going to keep that commitment. If I have to do it again next year, I’ll do it again next year just to beat $17,000.”

The Rotarians raised more than $17,000 for their Polio eradication philanthropy. The club’s fundraising effort is being matched by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Roberts, Driscoll and McIntyre on the other hand, were matched with hats to cover their newly sheared domes.
