A private consultant is offering a different look at economic development and land use in Peoria.

Joe Minicozzi of Urban3 specializes in land value economics and community design. The City of Peoria Innovation Team commissioned Minicozzi to study the area’s suburban sprawl, urban core development and many other related factors.

Anthony Corso heads up Peoria’s I-Team. He says they are looking to make the data around the economic impacts of land use easier to understand and to help further well-informed city development.

"So this was our first report back on the story of them pulling together this information. What are the economic factors on the ground? What does that look like and how does that impact or relate to our development patterns or our land form," he said.

The Data, Dollars, Development: The Economics of Land Use in Peoria presentation shows Peoria has more land mass dedicated to parking, then it does to businesses and homes. The same is true of roads.

The Economics of Land Use in Peoria presentation will eventually be posted online. Corso says they are waiting to add a some additional data to the report before it's posted.

A condensed version of Monday's presentations and the data findings are to be delivered at the Peoria City Council Meeting, Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 6:00p.m.

The meeting is carried live on Peoria Public Radio, 89.9fm and is streamed live on this website.
