Peoria Sees a Robust Field of Candidates

The final field of candidates is set for Peoria City municipal and township offices in the spring elections. Mayor Jim Ardis is facing two challengers. Marie Kennell and Couri Thomas both filed candidate petitions Monday.

Seven people are running for Township Supervisor. Joe Whalen is not seeking re-election. That field includes Frank Abdnour, Samuel Joseph, Daniel Sullivan, Evonne Fleming, Mike Aiello, Clyde Gulley, Harvey Burnett.

David Berry is running against Densie Moore for the 1st District Peoria City Council Seat.

Jim Montelongo has a primary race for the 4th District. Ben Thornton and Mike Eddleman have filed paperwork to run for the seat.

Rita Ali and Denis Cyr are running for the 5th District. Councilman Casey Johnson says he is not seeking re-election this term.

Eight people are seeking the two partial at-large city council terms. Sid Ruckriegel who was appointed to Chuck Weaver’s unexpired term, is running. His challengers include Robert Hanauer, Zachary Oyler, John Kelly, Andrew Nichols, Scott Kelsey, Anthony Walraven and Amr Elsamny.

Any office with more than two candidates will have a run-off in the February 28th primary.
