Peoria County Early Voting Beats Records

Early voting in Peoria County has surpassed 2012.  The Peoria County Election Commission reports nearly 21,300 voters cast their ballots early.

That's about 200 more votes cast in early voting than the last presidential election.

6,100 people elected to vote by mail. That’s more than double the number who cast -what was still called an "absentee ballot" during the last presidential election cycle.

Perhaps the most notable jumps so far is the number of people who are registered to vote in Peoria County. 118,750 people were registered to vote as of yesterday. That number will undoubtedly grow. People can still register before voting Mon.

Already Peoria County has about 2,800 more registered voters now than it did in 2012. In fact, a Facebook post by the Election Commission in the last couple of days seems to have resulted in about 1,000 people registering or updating their information online. In 2012, 68.5 percent of registered voters cast ballots.
