The first Allegiant Flight from Charlotte North Carolina landed at Peoria International Airport today. That was closely followed by the first flight departing for the new destination.

Gene Olson is the Director of Airports. He says the addition of  Charlotte-Douglas International Airport provides great access for those flying out of Peoria. Olson says it’s American’s 2nd busiest hub:

“They have over 700 flights a day that depart from Charlotte going to lots of flights all over the united States. It’s really going to help our passengers get up and down the east coast. It also is going to give good access to the Caribbean and Europe as well.”

Olson says nearly three-dozen cities have direct international flights out of Charlotte. Peoria International Airport now has 11 different destination cities. Olson says that is more than any other downstate Illinois Airport.

There are two Peoria-Charlotte flights a day operated by PSA Airlines on 50-seat CRJ-200 regional jets.
