Democratic congresswoman and candidate for senate, Tammy Duckworth, made a campaign stop in East Peoria pitching her ideas for improving the nation’s roads and infrastructure Thurs.

“I really see it as an investment that will bring jobs here, it’s not just about the federal government spending money that then disappears,” Duckworth said. “It actually goes into the local economy.”

Duckworth says if she wins the Senate race, she will work across the aisle on a bipartisan agreement to fund infrastructure.

Before her press conference, Duckworth spoke to members of the Illinois Pipe Trade Association in a private meeting.

When asked about the latest presidential debate, Duckworth called GOP hopeful Donald Trump a “sore loser” in regards to his repeated claims that the election system is rigged.

“And I didn’t spend 23 years in the military defending our constitution to see it weakened,” Duckworth said. “I’m sorry, but I don’t agree with Mr. Trump. I think that he thinks he’s going to lose the election, so he’s coming up with all kinds of excuses.”

Duckworth, an army veteran, is campaigning against incumbent Republican Mark Kirk for Illinois Senate. Kirk, also a military veteran, does not support Donald Trump.
