The Ps & Qs on the Peoria Schools Facility Tax Refendum

Friends of Peoria County Schools offered its first public forum last night at the Carver Center.

The ‘Vote Yes’ campaign supports the 1/2-percent School Facility Sales Tax increase question before Peoria County voters on the November ballot. This is the second attempt to pass the referendum.

Andrea Tortora is managing the 'Vote Yes’ Campaign. She says there are still opportunities to learn more about the referendum and ask questions.

Tortora says the next public forum about the proposal is Tuesday night at the Lakeview Recreation Center in the multipurpose Room, from 6:00-8:00p.m. The third event is Tuesday, November 1, at Whilder-Waite Elementary School in Dunlap. It starts at 6:30p.m.

Tortora says they are also willing to talk with neighborhood and community groups. The 1/2-percent sales tax would amount to an additional $52 a year for the average Peoria County resident starting in July.

The 18 public school districts in Peoria County would share the money based on populations.
