Peoria City Council Eyes New Subdivision Standards

The Peoria City Council got its first look Tuesday at proposed changes in road standards for new subdivisions.

Currently, subdivision roads are 34-feet wide with four feet of parkway, the green space along the street.

Peoria Public Works Director Scott Reeisesays the proposed standards would narrow the road and increase the width of the parkways.

"The narrower streets, we’re taking them down to 28 feet. It also, besides slowing traffic down and increasing green space, it does reduce the storm water impact. It reduces our impermeable area that we have in a subdivision."

The new standards also would increase the thickness of subdivision roads in order the achieve a 30-year lifespan with proper maintenance.

The city council plans to vote on the proposed changes in two weeks.
