Greater Peoria Area Habitat for Humanity breaks ground for its 3rd Veteran Build next month. Lea Anne Schmidgall is the Executive Director of the area Habitat chapter. She says Army Specialist James Stevens will put in sweat equity on the 1,200 square foot, 3-bedroom home.

“Habitat would love to have your volunteerism. We need volunteers for every Saturday that we are going to be here and we also need volunteers through the week to get us ready for the volunteers on Saturday.”
Schmidgall says skilled laborers are the most valuable volunteers to the building project Monday through Friday.
The veteran recipient, James Stevens will take on a 20 year interest free loan with a one percent down payment for the home off Springfield Road in East Peoria.
Schmidgall says they are hoping the house will be complete and ready for Stevens and his daughters to move-in by next Spring.
