Along with rides and butter cows, the State Fair is showcasing Illinois’ 2016 teacher of the year -- who happens to work in Peoria Public Schools.

Woodruff Career and Technical Center’s Kim Thomas received the 2016 Illinois Teacher of the year award from the State Board of Education.

The ISBE says in a news release Thomas will be at the fair this weekend to demonstrate learning techniques she employs to get students excited about math, such as games called "Math Muscles" and "March Mathness."

The ISBE says Thomas is scheduled to present in the Governor's Tent on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.
