At-Large Peoria City Councilman Sid Ruckriegel announced Thursday he is running to retain the seat he was appointed to last November.

Ruckriegel was appointed to fill out the remaining time on the seat that belonged to Chuck Weaver, who vacated it to take the Illinois Senate Seat vacated by Congressman Darin Lahood.

Ruckriegel owns a restaurant and real estate holding company. “ Being an at-large council person is a natural fit for me. You see, I’ve actually lived in four of the five council districts and I’ve actually done business in all five. It gives me a unique insight into the city concerns of all parts of the city,” he said.

Ruckriegel says he believes in balanced budgets, quality basic services, small but effective government and working hard to provide opportunities for all Peoria residents.

Six of the 10 other Peoria City Council members were present for the announcement, including Mayor Jim Ardis. Ardis says he is also planning to run for another term next April.
