Peoria County-wide Election Commission works out wrinkles

The Peoria County-wide Election Commission is getting ready to adopt a mission statement to remain focused on fostering public trust and confidence in the democratic process with accurate, accessible, fair and secure elections.

The roughly year-old agency is also working out any wrinkle after the March primary as it prepares for the November General Election.

Election Commission Executive Director Tom Bride says it took longer than they wanted to get election judges paid. But he says that included the transfer of payment information for about 600 people:

“So this is the first county wide election that we’ve done it this way. So I think that was the other issue, is they hadn’t seen the numbers at this volume before.”

The Countywide Commission also experienced a shortage of election judges in March after 148 people canceled close to election day. The commission put out a survey to find out what happened.

About half of the 40% that responded were impacted by the cold and flu virus that was going around at time, others had a scheduling conflict.
