Changes in the 73rd Illinois House seat

73rd District State Representative David Leitch says it was a strange election day for him. It's the first time in 28 years that his name has not shown-up on the ballot for the Illinois House of Representatives or Senate.

Republican Ryan Spain is running for the seat. Leitch is retiring.

Ryan Spain Republican nominee 73rd District State Representative

Spain who is an at-large Peoria City Councilman ran unopposed on the Republican ballot for the 73rd Illinois House District and no democrats ran for the seat.

The democratic party has until May to place a candidate on the ballot against Spain for the November primary.

But Leitch was also still on the Republican ballot. He ran for a precinct committeemen seat, and won that race with 71% of the vote. He faced Mark Chaney.

The kind of odd thing about that is it was one of the only contested precinct committeemen races in the tri county area. Leitch says the county party chair asked him to run and he was unaware that he would have a challenger.
