Baseball Sports Complex Gets a Neighboring Pastime

BigShots Golf

The Louisville Slugger Sports Complex is set open and already has a new supporting development planned for its neighborhood. Peoria Public Radio’s Tanya Koonce reports.

The Peoria City Council unanimously approved annexing the piece of land and zoned the property on Orange Prairie road for a new business.

Fifth District Peoria City Councilman Casey Johnson says BigShots Golf is a five to six million dollar private investment planned for the east side of Orange Prairie Road near the Sports Complex. “This I think is the first development we’ve seen almost directly related to the Louisville Slugger project because you know there were what, 5000 hotel rooms they said last week that are already reserved for this summer. Those kids are going to need things to do.”

Johnson says groundbreaking is planned for spring with the hope to be operational by Thanksgiving.

Fifth District Councilman Casey Johnson is also moving. Johnson’s home used to be in the fifth district but ended up in the fourth after the districts were remapped. He says he and his wife are building a home in Copper Creek Subdivision and renting a home from the builder until the house is complete this fall.

Johnson is seeking reelection in Spring 2017.
