Peoria School District 150 is considering a vote tonight that would change grade level configurations at 14 schools.

Under the proposed plan, middle school would begin in 5th grade. Schools are currently structured in a “jagged” fashion, with multiple entry points of 4th, 5th and 6th grade.

The plan would add grades to some schools, like Glen Oak. Adding two grades and making it a K-8 school in an effort to eliminate disruptions in students’ social structure.

Superintendent Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat says the plan would also alleviate overcrowding at certain schools, and make better use of others that are underused.

The District 150 board is scheduled to vote on the plan during a special meeting at 6:30pm. The proposed configurations would start this fall.
