More than 25 people attended the meeting last night on the Riverfront Park concept site plan. Most of the 90 minute meeting heard questions and concerns from those who oppose the redevelopment. They question whether the land the city is proposing as a replacement for Riverfront Park meets the state’s eligibility requirements.
Assistant City Manager Chris Setti says the feedback was helpful.
“We’ll take kind of a deeper look at some of the issues about grading and the environmental stuff that some folks brought up, not that we haven’t thought about it, but maybe we need to understand a little bit more how those issues work into it.”
The public hearing is part of the process required by the state when public park land is being used for a development. Setti says the city is...
“seeking to wrap this up by the end of the month so we can get it down to IDNR and let them make the decision. So we know how to go forward. Whether IDNR says yes, whether they say know or whether they say we need to more work on this.”
The Riverfront Park concept site plan has a $600,000 price tag, to be paid for with Northside Business Park and Riverfront TIF money.
The deadline for written public comments on the site plan is January 25th.
A second public meeting on the concept site plan is January 20th at 6:00p.m. at Peoria City Hall.
