Area Law Enforcement Share New Year’s Celebration Tips

Area law enforcement agencies are urging motorists to drive safe during events before and after New Year’s Eve.  They say drivers should always buckle-up, put away their cellphones, and never drink and drive.  But Illinois State Police Trooper Ross Green says residents should have a backup plan in place before they start consuming alcohol:

“If you feel the effects of alcohol, and there’s question in your mind if you shouldn’t drive, don’t drive.  It’s far less expensive to take that cab.”

Green says penalties for one DUI violation can cost a person $19,000 including court fines and attorney fees.  He says the high traffic volume on the roads during the holidays increases the chance for collisions.
