Caterpillar group president to retire due to ALS diagnosis

Caterpillar’s group president and 36-year veteran Ed Rapp is retiring. Cat announced Friday that Rapp is leaving the company due to a recent diagnosis of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Rapp said in a press release that the was “the toughest choice I’ve ever faced.” 

Rapp is currently the company's Resource Industries group president. He previously served as CFO and has worked for the Caterpillar abroad in Africa, Europe and Asia. 

Cat says it plans to announce a replacement early in 2016.
