After months of construction and delays from other projects, the Allen and Alta Road intersection re-opened Thursday. The intersection closed this past spring for upgrades, including removing the four-way-stop and installing a roundabout. City Engineer Scott Reeise says the move will help remove the long-waits for many drivers during the morning and evening rush hours:
“It would back up, and sight-distance wasn’t good. So this really reduces that delay.”
Reeise says the entire project cost about $4 million. He says the project was one of many closures for Allen Road, including for emergency culvert repair and area intersection work:
“This was an opportunity to close it one last time, take advantage of I-DOT’s project, stay underneath their closure and get it all finished out, so we don’t have to close Allen road anymore for these residents here on the North Side.”
