Peoria Board Overturns Decision On Medical Cannabis Dispensary

The Peoria Zoning Board of Appeals voted Thursday to overturn a decision that barred a medical cannabis dispensary from opening.

The five-to-one vote means Trinity Compassionate Care Centers is set to open early next month.  City staff argued that the dispensary shouldn’t open because it’s zoning certificate expired in September. But Trinity official Ronald DiGiacomo says the business followed city requirements when working on the facility before the certificate expired:

“It’s been a battle. This industry, although we’re helping lots of people, it still has that stigma, that we’re all trying to overcome. But I think our organization does a wonderful job in showing the education support.”

It’s unclear if the City of Peoria will pose a court challenge the ruling by the Zoning Board of Appeals.
