Peoria County Employee Unions get contract extensions

The Peoria County Board unanimously approved contract extension with two of its employee unions during its regular meeting. The Council 31, AFSCME Local 3665 and the IBEW Local 21 agreements provide signing bonuses over the 18 and 24 months respectively.

Andrew Rand is Chairman of the Peoria County Board. He says the bargaining units were marvelous to work with, "and I think is shows in the results. Those expenses are extremely tolerable and frankly between the two agreements we will save a million dollars over the next 24-months.”

Rand says as of right now the county is on track to a solvent budget over the next two years. But he says the budgetary decisions the state makes in the next two years could quickly swallow-up the gains the county worked to make.
