City Gathers Input On Proposed Two-Way Traffic Change In Peoria

The City of Peoria is looking to convert Adams and Jefferson Streets to two-way traffic. To that end, the city held an open house event Wednesday to gather input. Jon Walker owns Urban Artifacts and also owns property in the Warehouse District.  He says the traffic change helps boost business:

“One-way traffic you’ve only got half the chance for them to see you, where two-way traffic you’ve got double the chances for your exposure.”

City Officials say the two-way streets would also include bike lanes and center turn lanes.  Brent Baker bikes to work downtown along the riverfront, and supports the proposed traffic change:

“Walking around downtown we see different widths of sidewalks on different sides of the same block. So adding some more uniformity to the landscape, and more access to pedestrians, cyclists, multi-modal transportation.”

The City Council will get a report on converting most of the traffic on Adams and Jefferson Streets sometime next year.
