Longtime Peoria Lawmaker Announces Retirement

Peoria State Representative David Leitch is retiring at the end of his current term. The longtime Republican lawmaker announced this morning he is not seeking re-election in next year’s election.

He has served in the Illinois House since 1989 and previously in the Illinois State Senate from 1986-1987.

Leitch says it’s been the honor of his life to represent Central Illinois for nearly three decades.

Leitch is currently the longest-serving member of the Illinois House Republican caucus and is the fifth most senior member of the Illinois House.

Representative Leitch has served as a member of the House Republican Leadership Team under three House Republican Leaders and has served in office under six Governors.
