Governor has high hopes for the Illinois Republican Party

In the midst of a partisan impasse - Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner says he wants Republicans to become the majority party in Illinois within eight years.

Speaking to a group of Republicans who do the ground work for the party - Governor Rauner says the GOP can take over the Illinois House and Senate in the near future.

"My goal, how about the Republican Party become the majority party in the next eight years?," Rauner said.

Democrats currently have super majorities in both.

The head of the House GOP - Jim Durkin - says Rauner has shown commitment to that goal in one big way: money.

"Look, of course, the governor has the ability to raise significant amounts of money and I think to date he probably has," Durkin said.

Rauner has almost 20 million dollars sitting in his campaign fund.
