The Back-to-school reinstitution of road rules

Peoria Police are reminding area drivers on the rules of the road that come with back-to-school.

The agency is encouraging people to obey the 20 mph speed zones from 7:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. when children are present. People can expect police to enforce School Speed Zones with special details throughout the first weeks of school.

Drivers in both directions are also required to stop for a school bus when stop arms are extended. The exception to the law is a highway with four or more lanes.

And police ask drivers to pay special attention to children walking on sidewalks, riding bicycles, and possibly darting out from in between cars.
