State budget uncertainty affects Regional Planning Commission

The state budget stalemate is also affecting finances at the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission. 80-percent of the group’s funding comes from federal dollars used for transportation funds.  But Tri-County Acting Director Eric Miller says the commission can’t access that money without a state budget in place.  He says that some funding remains for Geographic Information Systems work:

“Beyond that, obviously we would have to take a hard look at where we spend our resources. We’re hopeful this thing gets resolved in the next few weeks.”

Miller says transportation planning is still getting done. But he says they’re banking on the state reimbursing local costs once a budget is passed. Miller says the Commission has enough reserve funds to last until October.
