Medical marijuana cultivation center opens in Delavan

Alex Rusciano / Peoria Public Radio

A medical marijuana cultivation center officially opened its doors for business in Delevan Friday.  Revolution Enterprises held a ribbon cutting in front of the 75,000 square foot facility.  Company CEO Tim McGraw says the facility will focus on innovation along with making medical cannabis products:

“New delivery methods, new medicines, to continue to study cannabis, because it hasn’t been since the early 1930s, cannabis research has essentially been handcuffed. Well, the handcuffs are coming off with this facility.”

McGraw says the facility will employ about 75 people and construction should be finished by October.

Delavan mayor Liz Skinner says the facility is a big boost to the city:

“It means jobs and hopefully additional rooftops, financial support for our school district as well as our city. So it’s a very exciting day.”

He says the facility got state approval last week to eventually cultivate up to thousands of cannabis plants.

Skinner says Revolution Enterprises also paid for temporary lodging for residents affected by last week’s tornado.

The facility will conduct research, and ship cannabis extracts, plants, oils and edible products to medical marijuana distribution centers across the state.
