The City of Peoria is trying to make it easier to redevelop businesses in older parts of town. That’s the message from City Community Development Director Ross Black. He says the City Council will consider rule changes to eliminate minimum parking requirements for non-residential properties:
“This will basically allow someone to go in and say, ‘I’m going to take a chance at opening a business in this older neighborhood because I don’t have to try and figure out how to provide all these parking spaces.”
Black says the rules would affect future developments if approved, and established businesses can choose to adjust parking space. Black says the proposed rules would also require new businesses to have bicycle parking, depending on the number of standard spaces.
