A portion of Main Street is closed this weekend for a block-party themed event. The Slide the City event will see Main Street closed from Glendale to North Street to make way for a one-thousand-foot slip-and-slide. City Councilman Ryan Spain says the event has fortunate timing:
“Luckily with the summer that we’ve had, we sure picked the right weekend to be doing this, because if you did it a month ago, we would have been underwater.”
Spain says the event also serves as a fundraiser for Saint Jude. Peoria police are suggesting drivers use Hamilton Street as a detour until Main Street re-opens at one-AM Sunday morning.
