District 150 Board appoints Sharon Kherat interim superintendent

The District 150 School Board voted in favor of appointing a former Manual Academy principal as acting and interim superintendent.

Dr. Sharon Kherat spent 13 years in District 150. She left in 2011 and is currently the associate superintendent for Danville Public Schools.  Kherat would replace Dr. Grenita Lathan, who resigned last week.  Board member Linda Butler says she opposes the appointment because she feels the board did not take the time to properly interview Kherat and other candidates interested in the job:

“It’s not about the person as much as it is about the process.”

The School Board met in executive session to discuss Kherat’s salary, and other terms of the proposed agreement. Board president Martha Ross says that the board needs a new top administrator before school starts this fall:

“We are in such a dilemma right now, we have so many things going on, we need to have somebody in place, someone who’s knowledgeable and able to pick up and move on.”

The School Board is expected to vote on a formal agreement with Kherat later this month.
