Ross voted District 150 School Board President

Alex Rusciano / Peoria Public Radio

The District 150 School Board has new members and a board president.  The group’s next task is to find a new superintendent:

Martha Ross was elected school board president after seeking the post for 13 years.  New board members Ernestine Jackson and Dan Adler also took the oaths of office and joined the group.

The meeting came a day after Superintendent Grenita Lathan announced her resignation following a tense week between her supporters and detractors.  Dozens of residents addressed the board on either side.  Glen Oak teacher aide and parent LaTocha Todd expressed concern about where District 150 goes next:

“I have children in the district, and it breaks my heart that I know the future is unsure.”

The Board is expected to vote on Lathan’s separation agreement at its next special meeting.  Board president Martha Ross says one administrator doesn’t make or break a district:

“If all of our processes are in place, there should be no break in the work that we’re doing.”

Ross says the board is also meeting Monday to talk about picking an interim superintendent.
