District 150 considering terminating Grenita Lathan’s contract

psd150.org

The Peoria Public School Board will consider whether to terminate Superintendent GrenitaLathan.  The board will also consider putting Lathan on administrative leave at its annual meeting Wednesday.  Lathan came to District 150 more than five years ago.

No reason is being given to consider terminating Lathan.  Her tenure since 2010 has been punctuated by tensions with the Peoria Federation of Teachers, where some employees voiced concern about Lathan creating a culture of intimidation and fear.

In the past, Lathan has responded to critics saying that program, budget and personnel decisions are necessary to move the district forward.  Parents and teachers also spoke out against Lathan following the removal of Charter Oak principal John Wetterauer following an investigation of ‘testing irregularities’ with special education students.

Lathan’s time at District 150 so far also saw the recent questions about travel expenses approved without board approval.
