Peoria crews maintain sand barrier amid leakage, rainfall

Alex Rusciano

Water levels on the Illinois river are expected to increase another foot by the weekend.  The news comes as heavy rains continue to affect parts of northern Illinois.  Peoria Public Works Director Mike Rogers says some water is leaking from sandbag barriers along parts of a 1,500 foot riverside border.

Rogers says crews are placing sandbags to stop leakage in specific areas.

He also says several water pumps are humming, removing pools of water that collect on the land in front of Water Street businesses and public space.
