Tornado recovery group: many helped, but needs remain

The Tri-County Long Term Recovery group has helped more than 1,000 individuals or families in tornado recovery efforts.  But many residents still struggle with soil-remediation issues, or fighting with insurance companies for payments.  Group Chairman Jim Fassino says remaining money is available for residents to deal with a variety of recovery projects:

“While most of those go as planned, there seem inevitably to be some that just don’t go as everybody would hope.  We’re not trying to assess blame. We’re trying to help people get back into their homes.”

Fassino says some residents who already received funding can still be in need when new issues are discovered.

Fassino says dozens of residents are still struggling with long-term damage, and people should not feel pressure to avoid calling, regardless if they’ve received help before or not.

“Rather than waiting, if they come to us now, we can make sure we consider their funding.  We would hate to have some people wait, and then find out that we’ve exhausted all the resources and they might have a very legitimate need.”

Residents can call caseworkers and confidentially discuss their home, soil, or financial needs by calling 309-696-6923.
