The Peoria PlayHouse of dreams...

Glen Oak Park has a new resident in the historic building that once served as the Park District office. The Junior League of Peoria and its community partners are cutting the ribbon and opening the new Children’s Museum and PlayHouse Friday after nearly 15-years in the making.

Rebecca Schulman Hertz is the director of the new Children’s PlayHouse. She says the Playhouse has signs throughout that include prompts. “The exhibits are all aimed at zero to eight, but when a 10-year old comes with their younger brother and sisters we’ll have challenge cards out, hopefully by July that will help the kids find something that is really age appropriate and challenging.”

The Children’s PlayHouse has six different areas including a farm area with a hayloft reading space, a sand porch and garden area where three biomes are represented and downstairs there’s a water table.

Schulman Hertz says the goal of the new PlayHouse is to make sure the Glen Oak Park Playhouse is a museum for everybody. "We are really working with service providers in the East Bluff as well as the Southside to distribute what we are calling explorer passes and these passes will encourage families to come. They will allow them in a certain number of times free of charge. There are extremely reduced price memberships and reduced price programing.”

The ribbon cutting is 9:00 a.m Friday, June 12, 2015 at the new Glen Oak Park Children’s PlayHouse.

Summer operating hours for the PlayHouseare daily 9:00a.m.-4:00p.m.
