Kirk pushes passing Trade Promotion Authority

Tanya Koonce

Illinois Senator Mark Kirk toured the ADM Plant on the Riverfront in Peoria Wednesday. Senator Kirk says getting a new trade agreement is necessary for companies like Peoria-based Caterpillar and ADM:

“If you’re supporting Illinois agriculture, you are supporting incomes across Illinois. I’m not just a Chicago guy. I am here south of I-80 saying I support agriculture!”

Kirk says Trade Authority will ensure resources are used wisely, and will boost profits by exporting the ADM product to more foreign markets.

The ADM plant in Peoria employs 200 full time workers and 150 contractual employees.

It exports an estimated 75% of the corn processed each year to overseas markets.
