Peoria Council OKs mobile payment parking meter program

Drivers in some areas of Peoria will soon be able to use their smartphones to pay parking meters. The City Council approved a test pilot for three areas of the city:

The 90-day test areas will be around the Peoria Riverfront Museum, the County courthouse and the Liberty Street parking lot.  City Public Works Director Mike Rogers says people can download the mobile app to their smartphones to make it easier to pay parking meters:

“You don’t have to run back out and feed the meter again. You’re going to get a text message that says ’15 minutes, your time is about to expire. Do you want to add more money to your meter?”

Rogers says people can still choose to use coins at the meters. He says the city will consider expanding the program to other areas after the pilot period.
