Frerichs talks audit findings in Peoria stop

Illinois State Treasurer Mike Frerichs says his office is prepared to make changes following an independent review from an outside accounting firm. The review found a paid internship program improperly gave positions to young people with political connections.  Frerichs says his office will still offer internships, but is scrapping the previous program:

“But we’re not going to spend $150,000 a year on interns who might be politically clouted.”

Frerichs made his comments today/yesterday during a stop in Peoria.  His office released the results this week as part of a 100-day audit Frerichs promised after taking the Treasurer’s Office.
