Airport has record number of passengers in March

Spring break helped make March a record setting month for Peoria’s General Wayne Downing International Airport.  The airport saw 60,750 passengers pass through the gates, the largest monthly number on record.

The previous record was set in June of 2014.  This is the 12th record set in the last 13 months.

Families fled winter snow and cold spring temperatures in favor of warmer destinations.

Passenger count was bolstered by Allegiant’s new Orlando-Sanford destination, as well as United’s non-stop flight to Houston which drew 14% more passengers last month than the Denver flights it replaced.

PIA’a roadway repair project kicks off this summer improving parking lots to accommodate the increase in passengers.
