The Peoria County Board is set to vote next week on appointing a long-time county employee as acting Administrator. The board is also looking to buyout the current Administrator’s contract:
Lori Curtis Luther is leaving the county’s top post to take a city job in Wisconsin. She was set to leave at the end of May, but the Peoria County board could vote to pay the remaining time left on her contract and then approve Assistant Administrator Scott Sorrel as acting administrator.
Sorrel has spent more than 21-years with the County, which saw a budget struggle last year and faces potential tough spending choices this year. To that end, Sorrel says a top priority is to collaborate:
“My role in that is to kind of conduct the orchestra, and take direction from the county board in terms of how they want to see that budget crafted.”
Peoria County Board chairman Andrew Rand praised Sorrel’s years of service to the County:
“He’s grown, he’s created a color for himself, he’s a known entity, commands a great deal of respect.”
A special meeting of the full County Board will likely be held next Tuesday to take up both Luther’s contract buyout and Sorrel’s appointment.
