Governor Bruce Rauner continues to call the resignation of former U.S. Congressman Aaron Schock an 'unfortunate situation.' Some are calling for Schock to use his own money to pay for a special election to fill the 18th District seat. But Rauner wouldn't weigh-in either way on that possibility:
“I just know we need to get, uh, a new person in there, and we’re going to do that as expeditiously as we can.”
The proposed primary election is July 7th, with a general election set for September 10th. Among those running include state senator Darin LaHood, Bloomington lawyer Mark Zalcman, and Springfield school board member Adam Lopez. Right now, Peoria County is on the hook for paying its share of any special election costs.
