Peoria native to run for 8th Dist Congressional seat

Former Illinois deputy treasurer Raja Krishnamoorthi says he'll run for U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth's seat in Congress now that she's announced her bid for U.S. Senate.
Krishnamoorthi made the announcement Tuesday, a day after Duckworth said she would enter the race for Republican U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk's seat. Both Krishnamoorthi and Duckworth are Democrats.
Duckworth defeated Krishnamoorthi in the 2012 Democratic primary for the 8th District northwest suburban Chicago seat in Congress.
The 41-year-old Krishnamoorthi lives in Schaumburg and was raised in Peoria. He is currently president of Sivananthan Labs and Episolar, Inc. The small businesses sell products in the national security and renewable energy industries.
He says in a statement announcing his candidacy that he'll focus on working families and economic security.
