LaHood makes his candidacy official

Illinois State Senator Darin LaHood made his candidacy official today/Monday for the 18th Congressional District seat being vacated Tuesday by Aaron Schock.

LaHood’s Peoria announcement included a room full of Republican Party faithful including his father who held the seat for 14 years immediately before Schock.

The senior LaHood did not speak. Long time state Representative David Leitch introduced LaHood. “I there was one term that was always applied to Bob Michel and Ray, it was a workhorse and not a showhorse. And I think this Districtict is ready for the next work horse!”

For his part, Darin LaHood says the two things that will matter most for him if he represents the 18th District. “It’s how you go there and vote on the important issues of the day, It’s how you vote on fiscal responsibility, It’s how you vote on our values, It’s about how you vote on cleaning up the mess we have in Washington, and secondly it’s how you help people.”

LaHood also made a formal announcement today in McLean County. Bloomington Attorney and fellow Republican Mark Zalcman is the only other announced person seeking the seat.

The Special election is expected to be set for June.
