District 150 could see ‘juggling’ finances, long-term priorities

The District 150 School Board is trying to balance short-term budget woes with long-term goals.

The district priorities include finding better ways to recruit and keep teachers, use buildings more efficiency, and promote student learning. To that end, the school board discussed regularly assessing employee satisfaction with the district, calculating the food and technology cost per student, and perhaps year round or summer school changes.  But Board president Debbie Wolfmeyer says reaching those goals could be difficult when the district faces millions of dollars in proposed budget cuts next school year:

“Getting the news about the budget and trying to figure out what we’re going to do just for the coming year, and then try and do the strategic plan at the same time, it’s going to be a lot of juggling.”

The school board will weigh-in on the priorities after the administration calculates the price-tags for each goal.
