Schock, under scrutiny, defends another travel expense

Peoria Congressman Aaron Schock spent more than $10,000 in taxpayer funds for at least 10 staff members to accompany him to New York City.

Schock made the September trip for events connected to a visit by the Indian prime minister at the Global Citizen Festival. Schock says it was a "very legitimate trip." It was matter of staff development he says and well within the budget of his Congressional office. "That’s part of my job as a representative, to have a staff that is engaged in the same issues that I’m passionate about, in the same issues that my district is passionate about and that same issues that the leading employer in my district is passionate about.”

Schock announced Friday he’s hired outside firms to oversee spending by his official and campaign operations as he faces increasing press scrutiny.

Schock’s reimbursed the government for lavish office redecoration, a flight to see a Chicago Bears game and the accounting for private air travel.
